What to expect from Silent Hill 2 on PS5 Pro?
PS5 Pro players will get a major boost in graphical fidelity and performance over the base console in Silent Hill 2. While its initial launch was rocky, the game has since been updated to use Sony’s improved PSSR upscaling technology. The game offers two graphics modes: Quality mode, which targets 30 fps, and Performance mode, which targets 60 fps at a lower resolution.
Quality mode features ray-traced reflections and lighting, while Performance mode uses more traditional rendering techniques. Subsequent updates have further improved its performance.
Both the original Silent Hill 2 and its remake have received critical acclaim. Unlike the original PS2 release, the remake features an over-the-shoulder camera perspective and replaces the original’s tank controls with more modern controls. While largely following the original game’s storyline, the remake adds two new optional endings to the six endings featured in the original.
The story explores themes of mental illness, guilt, and abuse. As James navigates the town, he encounters monsters that are manifestations of his own psyche, including the iconic Pyramid Head. It is the first full remake of a Silent Hill game in the franchise.
Bloober Team is currently developing a remake of the original Silent Hill.
