The updated version of Capcom’s classic Resident Evil 2 horror game can now be played on recent iPhone, iPad and Mac computers. And the cost has been slashed by 75% for a short time.

It’s the latest in the long-running series to hit Apple devices.

Resident Evil 2 comes to the latest iPhone, iPad and Mac models

Apple wants to demonstrate the cutting-edge performance of the latest A-series processors for iPhone and also make “Mac gamer” into less of an oxymoron. That’s why it’s encouraging developers to port their top-tier games to all its devices.

The latest of these is Resident Evil 2. This helped define the survival horror genre in the 1990s, then got a revamped version in 2019. The improved edition is ready for all iPhone 16 models, iPhone 15 Pro models, and every iPad and Mac with the M1 chip or later.

“A deadly virus engulfs the residents of Raccoon City in September of 1998, plunging the city into chaos as flesh-eating zombies roam the streets for survivors,” says Capcom of the game. “An unparalleled adrenaline rush, gripping storyline, and unimaginable horrors await you.”

Players take on the character of either Leon S. Kennedy or Claire Redfield. The choice enormously affects the game, as it controls what weapons, items and locations the player has access to, and even who the final boss is.

Resident Evil 2 for recent iPhone, iPad and Mac models hit the App Store on Tuesday, December 10.

Gamers can try part of the story for free, but finishing the game requires an in-app purchase. It ordinarily costs $39.99, but the price is down to $9.99 until January 8, 2025. That’s 75% off — if you think you might want to play the game later, buy it now!

The game joins others from Capcom already available for iPhone, iPad and Mac gamers. Resident Evil 7 biohazard debuted in July. Resident Evil Village and Resident Evil 4 launched in 2023.

Ed Hardy has been writing full-time about tech for 26 years, and using it for much longer than that. His intro to Apple was a Macintosh SE/30 (which he still has), but now he uses a 13-inch iPad Pro as his primary computer.

That’s because he’s a “tablet first” type of guy. Rather than use a Macbook, he connects a keyboard case to the iPad. And instead of a desktop Mac, he connects his tablet to a 27-inch display and full-size keyboard. (So don’t try to tell him that everyone has to use a Mac to be productive.)

Before coming to Cult of Mac, Ed wrote for NotebookReview, TabletPCReview and Brighthand, as well as other sites.
