After months of teases, previews, and whispers, the Kickstarter campaign for Paizo's new TTRPG, 13 Omens, has gone live. This new project from the creators of Pathfinder and Starfinder is a supernatural horror experience focusing on light rules and fast play.
The 13 Omens Kickstarter Campaign
According to its campaign page, 13 Omens is a story-focused horror TTRPG lead by Jason Bulman and James Jacobs. It is a notable departure from Pathfinder, the fantasy TTRPG that has received 25 years of ongoing support and craft.
The game is designed for single session play with each scenario paced like a horror movie. The game starts with characters playing as paranormal investigators, broken up into different Archetypes.
Conflicts are resolved with d6s, which are placed in a bag and shared among the players. Each game starts with 8 Safe Dice in this bag for the players to divide up as they choose.
The twist is as the game progresses, the GM will add Omen Dice to the bag. If any of these red D6s are rolled, and rolled poorly, bad things will happen to the player. By the climax, a total of 13 Omen Dice will be added to the bag, turning each skill challenge into an exercise of anxiety and tension.
The 13 Omens Kickstarter campaign contains the same expected batch of add-ons and goodies. A GM screen. Specialty dice. VTT support for Foundry, Alchemy, and Roll20. Adorable plushies based on the spooky characters found in the book. In addition, you can gain access to small zines. These zines contain new scenarios for the game, whose designers include Starfinder Creative Director Jenny Jarzarski and Magnus Archives co-creator Jonny Sims.
The pledge levels for the 13 Omens Kickstarter campaign are as follows:
- Digital Rulebook for $15: A PDF of the Core Rulebook
- Physical Rulebook for $35: Physical and PDF copies of the Core Rulebook
